Fruits

  • 1 apple (cored and sliced) Honeycrisp recommended for sweetness.
  • 1 red Anjou pear (cored and sliced) Brings a neutral sweetness.
  • 4 Mandarin oranges (peeled and segmented) Citrus flavor is key.
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries Tart flavor adds elegance.

Spices and Flavorings

  • 4 cinnamon sticks Provides a cozy spice.
  • 6 star anise A little spice goes a long way.
  • 2 tbsp candied ginger (chopped) Adds sweetness and zest.

Liquids

  • 1 cup orange liqueur Grand Marnier recommended.
  • 26 oz dry sparkling white wine Brut or extra brut preferred.
  • 1/4 tsp salt Enhances all flavors.

Preparation

  • Prepare the fruit by slicing the apple, red Anjou pear, and Mandarin oranges into manageable pieces, and remove any seeds.
  • In a large covered jar or bowl, stir together the apple, pear, oranges, cranberries, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and candied ginger.
  • Cover the jar and let it sit in the fridge for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight.
  • Just before serving, fill a pitcher with ice, pour in the fruit mixture, and gently top it off with the sparkling white wine.
  • Add extra fruit garnishes if desired and serve.

Notes

Make-ahead for improved flavors. Store leftovers tightly sealed in the fridge for 3-4 days. Avoid adding sparkling wine too early.
