  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Room temperature for easy mixing
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar Use light or dark, depending on your preference
  • 2 large eggs Try to use organic or free-range for better flavor
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Pure vanilla extract is best for rich flavor

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Consider using a gluten-free blend for a GF option
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix-Ins

  • 1 cup M&M candies Preferably in Valentine’s Day colors for a festive flair
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional, but who doesn’t love extra chocolate?

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Fold in the M&M candies and chocolate chips carefully.

Baking

  • Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving enough space between each cookie.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centers still look slightly underbaked.
  • Let cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze for later enjoyment.
