Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups water Freshly filtered water is best for a clean taste.
  • 1-2 tablespoons masala chai powder Use a high-quality brand like Tazo or Davidson's.
  • 1 cup milk Can use dairy or non-dairy options like almond or oat milk.
  • 2-3 tablespoons sugar Adjust based on your sweetness preference.

Optional Spices

  • to taste fresh ginger Sliced or grated.
  • to taste whole cardamom pods
  • to taste whole cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon

Preparation

  • In a pot, bring 2 cups of water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  • Once boiling, stir in 1-2 tablespoons of masala chai powder along with any optional spices like ginger, cardamom, cloves, or a cinnamon stick.
  • Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Pour in 1 cup of milk and add sugar to taste. Stir to combine and raise the heat slightly until it comes back to a gentle boil.
  • Once boiling, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for a minute.
  • Strain the spiced tea into cups, discarding the tea leaves and spices. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

For the richest flavor, use full-fat milk. Store leftover spiced tea in the fridge for up to two days. Reheat gently.
