Ingredients
  

For the Dough

  • 2/3 cup whole milk, warmed between 110°F to 115°F for the best rise
  • 5 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast ensure freshness for best results
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature and beaten this helps the dough rise properly
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened use quality butter for a richer flavor
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour King Arthur or Bob's Red Mill are great choices
  • 1 cup bread flour for extra fluffiness
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

For the Filling

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

For the Frosting

  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract for deeper flavor

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Add beaten eggs, softened butter, the remaining sugar, all-purpose flour, bread flour, and kosher salt to the yeast mixture. Mix on medium speed until smooth (5-7 minutes).
  • Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled (1-2 hours).
  • Punch the dough down and roll it out on a floured surface into a 10 x 15-inch rectangle.
  • In a small bowl, mix filling ingredients until combined. Spread evenly over the rolled dough.
  • Carefully roll the dough into a log and cut into 9 equal pieces.
  • Place the cut rolls into a greased dish, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
  • Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C) and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden.

Frosting

  • While the rolls are baking, mix cream cheese, butter, confectioners' sugar, maple syrup, and maple extract until fluffy.
  • Once the rolls are out of the oven and warm, frost generously with cream cheese frosting.

Notes

Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature for optimal mixing and rising. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
