Ingredients
  

Pasta and Sauce

  • 12 oz penne pasta Recommended brands: Barilla or De Cecco.
  • 2 cups marinara sauce Opt for Rao’s Homemade or any rich and flavorful brand.

Meats and Cheese

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (casings removed) Use hot or mild based on your heat preference. Recommended brand: Johnsonville.
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Freshly shredded is preferred; recommended brand: Galbani.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Aged Parmigiano-Reggiano adds depth.

Seasonings

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning A blend of dried herbs like oregano, basil, and thyme.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Use freshly cracked black pepper for added flavor.

Garnish

  • Fresh basil For garnish, optional.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Don’t forget to salt your water! Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage. Cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes, ensuring to break it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.

Combining Ingredients

  • Stir in the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked penne, sausage mixture, and 1 ½ cups of mozzarella cheese. Mix well.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Baking

  • Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving and garnish with fresh basil.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze in portions for up to 3 months. Prepare fully in advance and keep in the fridge until you're ready to bake.
