Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 oz tomato paste Look for high-quality tomato paste, ideally organic.
  • 1/2 cup water Use filtered water for the cleanest taste.
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar Choose unfiltered, organic for best flavor.
  • 4 tablespoons honey For a vegan alternative, substitute agave syrup or maple syrup.
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder Feel free to use fresh finely chopped onions instead.
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder Using freshly minced garlic is a delightful option.
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances flavors; adjust to taste.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the tomato paste, water, apple cider vinegar, honey, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt. Stir until everything is well mixed.
  • Increase the heat slightly until the mixture reaches a gentle simmer, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let it semi-cover for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to thicken the ketchup.
  • After thickening, remove from heat and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes.
  • Pour your ketchup into an airtight container and refrigerate for at least a few hours before using.

Notes

Store in the fridge for up to 4 weeks. Quality ingredients, adjusting sweetness, and avoiding burning are key tips. This recipe can easily be adapted for dietary needs.
