  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread Look for a fresh loaf with a crusty exterior and soft interior.
  • ½ cup salted butter, softened Room temperature butter makes it easier to spread; unsalted butter is recommended.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic packs a punch; alternatively, use garlic powder.
  • 2 Tbsp chopped parsley Fresh herbs elevate the dish.
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese Optional, provides a nutty flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy clean-up.
  • In a bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and grated Parmesan until smooth.
  • Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise or into thick slices.
  • Evenly spread the garlic butter mixture on the cut sides of the bread.
  • Place the bread on the baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes until the edges are golden and the butter is melted.
  • Switch your oven to broil and broil the bread for 1 to 2 minutes until crispy and lightly browned.
  • Remove the bread from the oven, slice it, and serve warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Mix the garlic butter a day ahead and refrigerate. For variation, try substituting different herbs or spices.
