Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20) For the best flavor
  • 1 large onion, chopped Use a sweet onion for milder taste
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) French onion soup Campbell’s brand is recommended for best flavor
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Adds savory depth
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese Melted beautifully for cheesy goodness
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns Opt for fresh, soft buns
  • to taste Salt and pepper Seasoning is key!
  • Butter for toasting the buns Room temperature butter spreads easier

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up into small pieces until fully cooked and no pink remains (about 6-8 minutes). Drain the excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion to the seasoned beef and cook until the onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the French onion soup and Worcestershire sauce. Let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes, allowing all those flavors to meld together.
  • While the beef mixture simmers, butter the hamburger buns and toast them in another skillet until golden brown (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Spoon the beef mixture onto the toasted buns, generously top with shredded Swiss cheese, and serve warm.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze the beef mixture in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
