  • 1 9-inch angel food cake, cut into bite-size cubes (about 7 cups), divided Store-bought works fine, but homemade gives the best texture.
  • 1.25 cups orange curd, store-bought or homemade, divided Consider making your own for an extra special touch.
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold Use high-quality cream for the best flavor.
  • 0.5 cups confectioners' sugar, plus more for optional dusting This will help sweeten the whipped cream without altering its texture.
  • Mint leaves, for garnish (optional)
  • Orange slices, for garnish (optional)

Preparation

  • Begin by cutting the angel food cake into bite-sized cubes. This should take about 5-10 minutes.

Whipping the Cream

  • In a stand mixer with a whisk attachment, add the cold heavy cream. Start mixing at the lowest speed for about 1-2 minutes, then increase to medium until the cream thickens, about another minute.
  • Reduce speed back down to low and slowly add the confectioners' sugar. Beat until soft peaks form, about 2-4 minutes.

Assembly

  • In a large trifle bowl, layer 1/3 of the angel food cake cubes at the bottom.
  • Spoon 1/3 of the whipped cream mixture on top.
  • Add 1/2 of the orange curd, spreading it over the whipped cream layer.
  • Repeat this layering process, finishing with the remaining cake cubes on top.
  • Spread the remaining whipped cream over the last cake layer.

Serving

  • You can serve immediately or refrigerate until you're ready to indulge. Cover lightly with plastic wrap if storing to prevent drying out.

Notes

Best enjoyed within 3 days. Prepare components ahead and assemble before serving.
