Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour Use a good quality brand for the best texture.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Have a little extra to sprinkle on top for that sweet finish.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Make sure it’s fresh to achieve a lovely rise.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Just enough for balance.
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature Whole milk works best for richness.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature I always prefer using European-style butter for added creaminess.
  • 2 eggs eggs Fresh eggs will provide the best flavor.

For the Cinnamon Filling

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon A high-quality spice will amplify the flavor.
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar For that deep sweetness and caramel notes.

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar Sifted for a smooth finish.
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk Adjust for desired thickness; I love to use heavy cream for a richer glaze.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Using an electric mixer, beat in the milk, butter, and eggs until smooth—about 2 minutes.
  • Gradually add in the dry mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  • In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon until evenly blended.
  • Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared dish. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon mixture over the batter.
  • Add the remaining batter and top it with the remaining cinnamon mixture. Swirl the mixtures together gently with a knife.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Glazing

  • While the cake is cooling, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk (or cream). Adjust the consistency if needed.
  • Let the cake cool for at least 15 minutes before drizzling the glaze generously over it.

Serving

  • Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for the best texture. Don’t overmix the batter. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
