Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For sautéing; using a high-quality extra virgin olive oil enhances flavor.
  • 1 small onion, diced Sweet yellow onions work best.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic packs a stronger punch; garlic powder can be used if short on time.
  • 1 pound ground beef Aim for 80/20; can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds savory depth of flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup Adds sweetness and moisture.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika Provides a smoky flavor.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Sharp cheddar creates a bold flavor.
  • 1 package egg roll wrappers Thinner wrappers provide crispiness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil. Allow it to heat up for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the diced onions and minced garlic to the hot oil. Sauté for 2-3 minutes or until the onions are translucent.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook and crumble the beef for about 5-7 minutes, until no longer pink.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly.
  • Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly before folding in the shredded cheddar cheese.

Assembling the Twists

  • Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface and wet the edges with water.
  • Place a spoonful of the beef and cheese mixture in the center. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll it up tightly.
  • In a clean skillet, add enough oil to cover the bottom and heat it over medium-high heat.
  • Once hot, carefully add the egg rolls to the oil, cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  • Remove the egg rolls and place them on a napkin-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Notes

Keep leftover twists in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For best results, reheat in an air fryer.
