Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 slices whole grain bread Offers a nutty flavor while providing fiber; feel free to substitute with any artisan bread you prefer.
  • 1 tablespoon butter Ensures that your bread gets that beautiful golden brown crust. Be sure it’s at room temperature for easier spreadability.
  • 4 ounces brie cheese (sliced) A velvety cheese that melts beautifully. Look for a high-quality brand; I love President Brie for its richness.
  • 2 tablespoons fig jam Adds depth and sweetness; I recommend St.Dalfour fig preserves for their authentic taste.
  • 1/4 cup turkey bacon (cooked and chopped) Provides that smoky, crispy element. You can swap this with regular bacon or even leave it out for a vegetarian version.
  • to taste garnish fresh arugula A peppery garnish that adds brightness to the dish; it can also be served on the side for an extra crunch.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Slice the brie cheese and chop the turkey bacon into bite-sized pieces.
  • Spread the butter evenly on one side of each slice of whole grain bread. This will ensure a golden, crispy crust.
  • On the unbuttered side of one slice of bread, layer the sliced brie cheese. Follow this by gently spreading the fig jam over the cheese.
  • Sprinkle the chopped turkey bacon over the jam. Top with the second slice of bread, ensuring the buttered side faces outward.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet and grill for 3-4 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy. Use a spatula to gently press down on the sandwich during cooking for an even melt.
  • Flip the sandwich carefully and grill the other side for another 3-4 minutes, until golden brown and the brie is thoroughly melted.
  • Remove the sandwich from the skillet once golden and melted. Allow it to cool for a minute, slice in half, and garnish with fresh arugula.

Notes

Timing is Key: Adjust the heat if your sandwich is browning too quickly—medium-low can help achieve the perfect melt. Common Mistakes to Avoid: Don’t rush the grilling process; low and slow ensures that the cheese is melty while the bread is perfectly crispy.
