Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar Use granulated sugar for the ideal sweetness. You can substitute with honey or agave for a different flavor profile.
  • 1 cup water Filtered water is best to keep the taste clean.
  • 2 cups blueberries (fresh or frozen) While fresh blueberries give the best flavor, frozen will work just fine. Ensure they’re unsweetened.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir occasionally. (This will take about 2 minutes.)
  • Once boiling and the sugar has completely dissolved, add 2 cups of blueberries to the pan. Bring it back to a gentle boil and cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring gently.
  • Use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to crush any berries that haven’t fully burst to help release their juices and flavor.
  • Remove from heat and allow the syrup to steep. Let it cool to room temperature—about 30-45 minutes.
  • Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the syrup into a glass jar or bottle, discarding the solids.

Notes

Store the syrup in a glass jar with a lid in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. If you want to extend its life, consider freezing it in an ice cube tray for future use.
