Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries Choose ripe, juicy blueberries. Frozen blueberries can be used if thawed and drained.
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Use high-quality cream cheese for the best texture.
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened Use unsalted butter for better control over sweetness.
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar Start with 3 cups and add more for desired sweetness.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Opt for pure vanilla extract for the best flavor.
  • 1-2 tbsp milk (optional) Use to adjust frosting consistency.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a blender or food processor, puree the fresh blueberries until smooth, approximately 1-2 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and butter. Beat on medium speed until creamy and smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition until desired sweetness and consistency is reached, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract and blueberry puree until well combined.
  • If the frosting is too thick, add milk gradually until the desired spreadability is achieved.
  • Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

For added flair, consider adding lemon zest to the frosting. Make-ahead option: can be stored tightly covered in the fridge for a day. Stir before using.
