Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large large sweet potato per person Choose firm, unblemished sweet potatoes for the best texture and flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon drizzle of olive oil Opt for extra virgin for a richer taste.
  • to taste mineral salt Sea salt or Himalayan pink salt work beautifully here.
  • light dusting cornmeal (optional) Adds a lovely crunch.

Optional Spices

  • to taste garlic powder For a savory kick.
  • to taste ground chipotle To add smoky depth.
  • to taste thyme For a classic herbal note.
  • to taste cayenne For extra heat.
  • to taste smoked paprika For that irresistible smoky flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F for the hand cut method or 350°F for the julienne method.
  • Wash the sweet potato and remove any unsightly areas.
  • Slice the sweet potato: For the hand cut method, slice the potato in half, then cut thin slices about 1/4 inch thick. For the julienne method, julienne your sweet potato for that perfect shoestring shape.

Baking

  • Place the sweet potato strips on a rimmed cookie sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat. Sprinkle generously with salt and any additional spices you're feeling!
  • Bake for about 15 minutes, then rotate the positions of the sheets in the oven. Bake for another 15-20 minutes until they’re golden and crispy.
  • Cool for a few minutes before serving. Best enjoyed immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

Ensure your sweet potatoes are at room temperature before slicing. For optimal crispiness, ensure strips are uniform in size.
