Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs (plus 1 egg for coating)
  • 1 Lb (450g) ground pork sausage (or ground beef)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ tsp mustard powder Optional
  • ¼ tsp paprika Optional
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the Eggs:
Boil 4 eggs for 6 minutes for soft centers or 8 minutes for firm centers. Transfer to an ice bath to cool, then carefully peel.
  • Prepare the Sausage Mixture:
In a bowl, season the sausage with salt, pepper, mustard powder, and paprika. Mix well.
  • Wrap the Eggs:
Divide the sausage mixture into 4 portions. Flatten each portion in your hand and carefully wrap around each peeled egg, sealing completely.
  • Coat the Eggs:
Beat the remaining egg in a bowl. Roll each sausage-wrapped egg in flour, dip in the beaten egg, and roll in breadcrumbs until fully coated.
  • Fry the Scotch Eggs:
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry each egg for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  • Serve and Enjoy:
Serve warm with a side of mustard or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For a healthier version, bake the Scotch Eggs at 400°F (200°C) for 25 minutes, turning halfway through.
