Crispy on the outside, savory on the inside, Scotch Eggs make for the ultimate snack or appetizer. Soft-boiled eggs are wrapped in seasoned sausage, coated in breadcrumbs, and fried to golden perfection.
Prepare the Eggs: Boil 4 eggs for 6 minutes for soft centers or 8 minutes for firm centers. Transfer to an ice bath to cool, then carefully peel.
Prepare the Sausage Mixture: In a bowl, season the sausage with salt, pepper, mustard powder, and paprika. Mix well.
Wrap the Eggs: Divide the sausage mixture into 4 portions. Flatten each portion in your hand and carefully wrap around each peeled egg, sealing completely.
Coat the Eggs: Beat the remaining egg in a bowl. Roll each sausage-wrapped egg in flour, dip in the beaten egg, and roll in breadcrumbs until fully coated.
Fry the Scotch Eggs: Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry each egg for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm with a side of mustard or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
For a healthier version, bake the Scotch Eggs at 400°F (200°C) for 25 minutes, turning halfway through.
