Ingredients

  • 4 large croissants, halved
  • 8 slices of ham
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk to form a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly, until the sauce thickens. Stir in nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
Place the bottom halves of the croissants on a baking sheet. Layer each with 2 slices of ham and a sprinkle of Gruyère cheese.
Spoon béchamel sauce over the ham and cheese, then place the top halves of the croissants on top.
Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the croissants.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the croissants are golden.
    Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a slice of tomato or a fried egg inside the croissant.
  • Substitute Gruyère with cheddar or mozzarella if preferred.
