Ingredients
  

  • cups bread flour
  • tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • cups warm water
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3 fresh jalapeños, finely chopped (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1 tbsp honey (for boiling water)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: extra cheddar cheese and jalapeño slices for topping

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Gradually add warm water and mix until a dough forms. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    Add Cheese and Jalapeños: Fold in shredded cheddar and chopped jalapeños until evenly distributed.
    First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
    Shape the Bagels: Divide dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each into a ball, then poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape.
    Second Rise: Place shaped bagels on a baking sheet, cover, and let rest for 20 minutes.
    Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
    Boil the Bagels: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add honey. Boil each bagel for 1-2 minutes per side.
    Bake: Transfer boiled bagels to a baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and top with extra cheese and jalapeño slices if desired. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
    Cool and Serve: Let cool slightly before serving.

  • Adjust the amount of jalapeños to control the spiciness.
  • For a softer crust, reduce boiling time to 1 minute per side.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
