Ingredients

  • 1 loaf challah bread, sliced 1-inch thick
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk or half-and-half
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp butter for cooking
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries for serving

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a small amount of butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface.
  • Dip each slice of challah into the egg mixture, letting it soak for about 10-15 seconds on each side.
  • Place soaked challah slices on the skillet and cook until golden brown, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Transfer to a plate, garnish with powdered sugar, berries, or syrup as desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free option, substitute the milk with almond or oat milk.
  • Adjust sweetness by increasing or decreasing sugar to taste.
